*UPDATE*
Shacknews StarCraft 2 Beta FAQ. Great info pack.
I’ve seen a few different sites saying 2008 was a great year for games and now 2009 we don’t have any games to wait for. Well I dissagree and I put together a little list of games I think have the potential to make 2009 a great year for games.

Empire: Total War
The fifth installment in the Total War series. You should know about these games by now but if you don’t, check them out. They are worth it. Among other improvements, Empire has a new game engine, real-time naval combat and a multiplayer campaign.

Operation Flashpoint 2
*Editors choice*
Sequel to the award winning Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis. This time developed by Codemasters. They have made a lot of promises and so far it’s looking very good.

Armed Assault 2
In direct competition with Operation Flashpoint 2. Developed by Bohemia Interactive Studio who made the original Operation Flashpoint. As if all this isn’t confusing enough, the launch dates of both Operation Flashpoint 2 and Armed Assault 2 are scheduled close to each other. Most years we go without any serious war games and now we are getting 2 of them. Hopefully there is a big enough audience for both.

Mafia 2
Third-person openworld shooter set in the 1940s and ’50s. The first game was amazing and big things are expected from the sequal as well.

Diablo 3
Action RPG developed by Blizzard Entertainment. Blizzard is among the most successfull game developers in the PC business. The 2009 release is in no way set in stone yet but if it does come out it will undoubtedly be one of the biggest games of the year.

StarCraft 2
Another game by Blizzard. I wasn’t a huge fan of the first StarCraft but this series has a large fanbase and so far it’s not looking bad for this game.

Wolfenstein
Developed by Raven Software, they do have a habbit of making good games. A potential multiplayer hit. It’s a Wolfenstein game, what more is there to say.

Alan Wake
The game has been in the making for a long time now. We have seen some footage every now and then, it has all looked great. Developed by Remedy Entertainment, the company behind the Max Payne games. It is looking to be something original.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Then there is the definite crowd favourite. Not much is known about the game at this point yet. It is being developed by Infinity Ward who made the 2 best games in the series Call of Duty 2 and Call of duty 4. Guarranteed to deliver an amazing multiplayer experience.
